How do make the ontology functional for humans and machines

Background

We expect that informaticists and terminologists will need to look up items and search the Canadian Ontology.   

We expect that programmers will want to digest the entire ontology for processing. 

Options

  1. Machine Readable
  2. Human Readable

Discussion

We would like to follow Ontario's example and include Parts and their names

We want to show the history of changes in the Ontology

It would be nice to have a 'delta' file for updating someone's existing implemenation



Decision

Ontology will be in Four files:

(1) Human Readable (XLSX, each are a worksheet)

o Combined Descriptors and Parts (similar to ON)

o pCLOCD format (additional columns to match, the ‘nomenclature’ sheet)

Machine Processable (each are tab delimited files)

(2) LOINC Descriptors. (Not the parts)

(3) LOINC Parts (LNC_PartLinkPrimary) (Parts and Identifier, not the display name)

(4) The provincial descriptors file

Also add the history information to the file.
